Institutions for higher education are required to be prepared for a wide variety of safety and security incidents that may take place on their campus, ranging from inclement weather to gun violence, and everything in between.
As safety and risk management issues continue to become more complex and dynamic, it’s the right time for proactive administrators to review current strategies and/or technology to help mitigate these issues at their institution.
Through our new partnership with LiveSafe, we’ve combined LiveSafe’s Risk Intelligence Platform and SafeColleges’ Safety on the Go Modules to form a powerful solution for colleges and universities – allowing students, faculty, and staff to more easily and quickly share and receive information about potential safety threats.
Here are six critical reasons why you should consider implementing the LiveSafe Safety Communication Mobile App and Communications Command Dashboard at your institution:
1. Anonymous Reporting – Allow Your Campus to Confidently and Safely Report Incidents
Students, faculty, and staff often know what’s happening on campus before you do, making each a crucial resource to your institution’s safety and security. With LiveSafe’s Mobile App, users can confidently and safely submit concerns or tips, such as assault or abuse, alcohol and drug abuse, suspicious activity, active assailants, etc.
Users can upload photos and videos to enhance tip content and utilize two-way chat with campus security officials to gather additional intel. After a tip is submitted, it is routed to the proper official in real-time. In addition, LiveSafe’s Mobile App can be used to report campus concerns that aren’t urgent, such as facility requests.
2. SafeWalk and SafeDrive - Provide a Safe Means of Travel on Campus
SafeWalk and SafeDrive help campus members travel throughout and around campus safely by using the LiveSafe Mobile App.
Users are able to connect with anyone of their choosing (friend, family member, classmate), whether they have the mobile application or not, which provides that person the ability to track the user from point to point by sharing their location. It also allows communication between the two.
If there is an emergency while traveling to their destination, users can quickly contact emergency services with the touch of a button. Users also have the ability to only share their location if they don’t reach a destination in time.
(Note: SafeWalk and SafeDrive are similar tools, but SafeDrive is for vehicular travel)
3. Broadcast – Notify Campus Members with Valuable Safety Information at a Moment’s Notice
LiveSafe’s Command and Communication Dashboard provides the ability to quickly send a mass notification to your campus community via SMS, email, and push notifications with valuable information. Notifications or messages can be directed to only be sent to certain filtered populations, allowing you to only contact those who need this information. These filters include preassigned groups within the user community (e.g., certain campus administrators or supervisors or managers).
In addition, you can broadcast messages to campus members by using geolocation, so that only those people in that area are notified. For example, if there was information about a road closure at a different campus location, you can draw guidelines around that area, so only those people are notified!
Although, this feature is very valuable in emergencies, it can be used for any type of mass messaging requirement. We have clients that have found use with it for mass notifying faculty and staff, traffic conditions, building closures, and more!
4. Check In – Engage with Campus Members During a Safety Incident
The ‘Check-In’ feature on the LiveSafe Mobile App allows your campus officials to engage with campus members during an emergency to ensure their safety. It is very similar to the ‘broadcast’ feature but requests the user to inform whether the user is “Ok” or “Needs Help.”
While utilizing the ‘Check-In,’ campus officials are providing real-time statistics and a map-view for those who have responded to the inquiry. During an emergency, this lifesaving information can be critical to your security operations center and/or safety personnel.
5. SafeColleges Safety on the Go Modules – Educate Students on Common Campus Scenarios
SafeColleges’ Safety on the Go Modules are located within the LiveSafe Mobile App. These modules are short, engaging videos that provide users with strategies and tips on how to be safer on campus regarding:
- Bystander Intervention
- Active Assailant
Campus members can browse through these resources whenever it's most convenient to them as these resources are available both on- and offline. Each module is less than five minutes and provides takeaways, so users can utilize the strategies in real life.
6. Powerful Campus Insights – Drive Effective Change with Real-time Analytics
Not only does LiveSafe provide valuable safety tools for your campus members, but it also can help you drive impactful change at your institution. LiveSafe’s Communications Command Dashboard provides real-time analytics and reports that can identify risk trends and/or patterns and collect data on a variety of risk types.
After analyzing aggregate data, your institution can implement strategic changes or initiatives to mitigate risk. LiveSafe also can be used to help you build a data repository of all incidents and reports, which can be used over-time to measure impact.
Invest in Campus Technology and Drive Effective Change
The best part of implementing our joint solution on your campus is that you get to provide easy-to-use and resourceful technology to your campus community that can help them in a critical incident while providing powerful insights to your officials.
